Dave + Kate | Ambassador Golf and Country Club LaSalle Wedding

Dave and Kate were probably the most easy going couples we’ve seen. Even when one of Kate’s bridesmaid dresses came in the wrong colour, and her hair didn’t turn out how she had hoped, they still made the best of everything and because of this, enjoyed their day to the fullest. Dave is kind, funny and adores Kate with all his heart. Kate is elegant, well spoken, and is clearly Dave’s puzzle piece. Together, these two are a power couple.

Dave and Kate are currently residing in Toronto, however they got married in Kate’s hometown of Windsor, Ontario. They spent the day surrounded by close friends and family. You could literally feel the love all around them. The entire day was kissed with beautiful, personalized details. Their “First Look” photos took place at Willistead Park, where Kate played as a little girl and they said their vows in the very same church that Kate’s parents, and grandparents got married. They finished off their night dancing away at Ambassador Golf Club.

Be sure to check out Kate’s awesome blogging skills on the 2 For Couples wedding blog. Dave & Kate, we so enjoyed our time together! Thank you for choosing us to capture your special wedding day memories.

Thunderfest

So, as many of you know, my second love, after Arica of course, is motorcycles. (Photography takes a close third ;)) I’m a petrol head through and through. My basement is full of vintage motorcycles parts, and I can’t think of many things more relaxing than wrenching on the latest barn find. I’m sure Arica prefers me down there turning a wrench to pretending I’m Evil Knievel down some county road anyways!

Once in a while I get to mix my passions for photography and motorcycles. Last weekend was one such night. Twice a year Erie Ramblers Motorcycle Club puts on a flat track race called Thunderfest on the old half mile horse track at the Leamington Fairgrounds. If you’re not familiar with flat track racing, it involves a big oval, a lot of horsepower, and no brakes! Riders slow to get around the corner by laying down their bikes sideways and then powering through… at 100mph I might add. What a show it is! I doubt I stopped smiling the entire night while standing trackside with my camera.

Here’s a few favorites of the hundreds of photos I fired off!

Makeup Tips for Your Photo Shoot

1. Apply Your Makeup in Natural Light
Different lighting scenarios can really change how your see your makeup. For example, certain lights can wash you out, causing you to apply make up too heavily. Your best bet is to sit near a window and apply your makeup there.

2. Use Matte Colours
When you are going to be photographed you want to avoid anything that is going to reflect light on your face. Mattes are just that, flat colours. They don’t shimmer or sparkle. If you don’t go matte, a little too much sunlight, or a camera flash can easily make your shimmer look like you’re an oily mess.

3. Avoid Titanium Dioxide
Avoid makeup that contains titanium dioxide (often used as sunscreen). It will reflect the light too much leaving you with a shine or washed out appearance.

4. Don’t Forget Blush
Blush brings life to the face. It makes people look happy and healthy. Skipping blush can wash your face out, especially under a heavy flash. Besides that, blush adds definition to your face. However, be careful, not to over apply blush either. Start off with a light stroke and add more if needed.

5. Blend in Your Under Eye Concealer
We’re all about covering up dark circles for photo sessions. However, you’ve got to be very careful to blend out the concealer extremely well. If your concealer isn’t well blended it can really show up fine lines or could make you have a white ring around your eyes. Not so flattering!

6. Use Black Liner and Black Mascara
If you normally use brown, navy or grey mascara or eyeliner, opt for black. The darker hue will give you better contrast. The contrast will make your eyes pop more. Big full lashes always look awesome in photographs. If you want to go the extra mile, add some false lashes.

7. Don’t Skip the Lipstick
Colour saturation does get lost a bit in each photo taken, it doesn’t matter how good your camera is. Skipping lipstick will cause your mouth to blend in with the rest of your face. It is best to contrast your features and get some colour back on those lips, even if it’s a nude shade.

8. Not Everyone is a Makeup Artist. If  you’re not confident with how to apply makeup, go to a professional who is familiar with these tips.

Satin eye shadows are also a great alternative. They give the eye a beautiful dimension without being too much! ReplyCancel

Kyle + Kaitlyn | Windsor Wedding

Kyle is an accountant, Kaitlyn is a Pharmacist, and as you can see from their pictures, they are both adorable! Kyle and Kaitlyn got engaged in Niagara Falls awhile back. Kaitlyn was taking a nap before they headed out for a magic show. While she was snoozing, Kyle stole her high school ring that she always wore. When Kaitlyn asked him to get it for her, she turned around to see him down on one knee with an engagement ring instead.

We had the privileged of doing their engagement photos last winter. It involved warm clothes, hot drinks and cuddling. Sounds romantic, right? Well it was, until Arica accidentally whacked Kaitlyn in the face with her giant 70-200mm lens, giving her a bloody lip (sorry again, Kaitlyn)! Luckily for us, they are lighthearted, forgiving people and they still hired us to do their wedding pictures, and we are so grateful. What a fantastic day!

Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Photographer

Choosing a photographer can be a tough decision. They have to be in your price range, you have to love their style, their packages and let’s face it, their personality too! Here’s a list of a few things we think are important when choosing a wedding photographer:

1. Make sure there are two photographers, and that they are both actually professionals.

The reason we shoot with two photographers is for the following reasons:

A) Safety: With two people around, you have back-up. If something were to go wrong, you will have another photographer there, of equal talent to cover the day. For example, should the photographer get ill, or if a memory card were to corrupt.

B) Variety: Having two people shoot your wedding gives you two different angles and perspectives of your day!

C) Quantity: You will get more photos.

D) Flexibility: For example, if you wanted shots of both the bride and groom to be getting ready in the morning you need two people to be in two different locations.

2. Lighting:

Making sure the photographer you choose has good lighting equipment is just as important as making sure you like the photographer’s style, personality and packages.

Things they should have:

A) At least two off camera flashes B) Two high end camera bodies that can handle higher ISO. The reason for two flashes and two camera bodies is for back-up in case one fails or breaks. Here are a few good camera bodies to look for:

Canon 1D series, 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III

Nikon D3S, D4, D700, D800, D810.

3. Lenses:

Make sure they have high-end lenses. Good lenses make a huge difference in quality by letting more light into the camera. You’ll want to make sure that the “f” number on their lenses is at or below 2.8. Also, the lower the “f” number, the sweeter the out of focus areas (Bokeh) areas of the image will look.

Some good lenses to have for wedding photography (just to name a few):

50mm f1.2, or f1.4

35mm f1.4

24-70mm f2.8

85mm f1.2, or f1.4

70-200mm f2.8

135mm f2.0

100mm f2.8

4. See it all:

It is very important to see photos from both indoor and outdoors, posed and candid shots. Some photographers are very good in some areas, but not so good in another. Make sure they have a good mix of all scenarios.

5. Digital Images:

If your photographer tells you that you will be getting all of your photos as digital images, ask what type of files. Some photographers will give you “Digital Negatives”, that is just a fancy term for “unedited photos.” In our opinion, this is not what you want. Editing makes a world of difference in the quality of your photos. Digital negatives are not colour corrected, may not be properly exposed and have no filters on them.

The Caradonnas | Lakeside Park Kingsville Family Session

Hi, and welcome to the most photogenic family of all time. Okay, we might be a little biased since these beautiful people are our cousins, but seriously. We just loved the white, and blue colour scheme paired with this gorgeous background. We’d personally like to thank Angela, Jimmy, Maria and Vince for driving all the way to Kingsville from Michigan for this shoot. We so enjoyed our time with your family (as usual).

Cole + Jana | Nautical Belle River Engagement

We first met Jana while photographing a wedding a few years ago. She was there documenting the day with her mad video skills. You can check out some of her work by clicking here. Time and time again we are amazed by her professionalism, work ethic and love for her work. When she messaged us about photographing her engagement photos, we were over the moon. It was a pleasure to meet Cole and spend some time with them both! Congratulations to the happy couple.
